Success Stories
Born with intellectual disability and severe hearing loss, Thyagaraj has consistently demonstrated remarkable resilience and a highly cooperative spirit. Throughout his time with us, he has benefited from a holistic support system including speech therapy, yoga therapy, and specialized education. After completing the fifth standard, he transitioned to two years of non-formal education before advancing to our pre-vocational and vocational training programmes. There, he mastered diverse skills in carpentry, candle making, chalk production, and basic computer operations.
Thyagaraj’s growth eventually led him to serve as an Assistant Instructor within our institution's vocational training centre. Today, he possesses the capability to work independently, currently excelling as a helper in a garment factory where supervisors highly praise his dedication and efficiency. Beyond his vocational achievements, Thyagaraj is an outstanding athlete. He proudly represented India at the Special Olympics World Winter Games in Idaho, USA, where he won a gold medal in floor hockey bringing immense pride to both our nation and our school. By equipping him with vital self-advocacy skills, we continue to foster his independence and champion the broader social inclusion of persons with disabilities.
Enrolled at the age of nine with mild intellectual disability and learning delays, Sagar has made tremendous progress across educational, behavioural, and vocational domains. He completed his education up to the fifth standard at our school, followed by two years of non-formal education. Through our vocational programme, he gained hands-on training in carpentry, candle making, paper bag production, and basic computer skills. While he initially exhibited highly stubborn behavioural challenges, tailored interventions through yoga therapy and behaviour therapy have successfully helped him manage and regulate his conduct.
Today, Sagar actively contributes to our community by working as an assistant to our vocational instructor and reliably running essential errands for the school. He also takes on the responsible role of assisting school van drivers, ensuring that special needs children embark and disembark safely. An accomplished athlete, Sagar has competed at both state and national levels for Special Olympics Bharat in handball and basketball, additionally securing numerous prizes in athletics. Continuing his journey toward digital literacy, he is currently undergoing graphic design and computer training through the AIMS Media programme at the Aruna Chetana Vocational Training Centre.
Saraswathi, who is auditorily challenged, joined our school in 1996. Following three years of foundational training at Aruna Chetana, she successfully transitioned and integrated into a mainstream school. Today, she leads a fulfilling, independent, and happily married life.
